Going to Utah for the Races

This year the AMA motorcycle road races and the World Superbike races were held together at the new Miller Raceway outside of Tooele Utah near Salt Lake City.  Roger, Dave, Ron and I rode up to watch them. We left on Thursday morning staying the night in Panguitch. The next day we took a roundabout route through some beautiful country with great curvy roads to our motel in Lehi. We spent Saturday and Sunday at the races and drove to Green River Sunday night. We returned to Tucson on Monday.

We stopped at the bridge over the Colorado at Marble Canyon on US89A
Stopping for a latte
We visited the Desert Doctor in Escalante
There was a group of dirt riders, most of them on KTMs, that drove from San Fransisco to ride the Utah dirt roads.
Riding over Huntington pass was great. There was a lot of snow but the road was clear and dry.
Then it was off to the races.

Ducati had set up an area for all the Ducati riders. As we had Ron along, who owns a 999R, he got us in as guests. The fed us, had a lot of great bikes to look, a store selling Ducati clothes and they had a fashion show.
One of Valantino Rosse's MotoGP Yamahas
Larry Miller, the owner of the track, also had a museum on the site of some of his cars. All Ford powered Mustangs, GT40s and original Cobras
The police even have a race team. They were not riding today.
There were unbrella girls
There is a company in Provo that sells these polished aluminum Cobra replicas. That is me in a reflection.
Ron and I joined in on a parade lap of the track. We drove around the long 4.5 mile track once. these Honda were along for the ride.
And then the races
They interviewed the top three finishers after the race. Ben Spies won, Jamie Hacking was second and Neil Hodgson was third in the AMA Superbike races.
