Grand Canyon

On November 29th, 2010, Jan and I decided to take a mini vacation. We drove through Gila Bend and up Vulture Mine Road to Wickenburg and then to Prescott. Then we drove  north to Grand Canyon. We stayed at a beautiful Best Western there. It was real cold. We were told that it is a bad time to go but it turned out perfect. We had our big coats, the sun was shining and the sky was clear. The best thing is that there were very few tourists. In the summer the place is jammed with people.

The next day we spent the whole day in the park. We took the trolleys to the end of each line. Then we drove out the highway toward Cameron and route 89 stopping at the view points. It was a view of the canyon we had never seen.

We stayed in Flagstaff. It was really cold there. It had snowed a few days earlier and there was still some ice on the roads in places. On the way home we first stopped in Sedona at Tlaquepaque. We came back through Phoenix and stopped in Glendale. They have a cute downtown area with nice shops.

A nice three day break. Now back to the hectic holiday season.

It was cold in Prescott but this is always a fun place to walk.
I had this jacket in mind for Jan for Christmas but she didn't seem too excited about it
This was a real nice Best Western at Grand Canyon
Ice. It was cold.
We need to wear our parkas at least once a year
The shuttle bus worked great. No crowds this day.
The El Tovar Hotel

This is just north of Sedona on 89a
