Road Trip to Friday Harbor

One of our favorite trips is an old fashioned road trip. We just load up the car, bring our maps and go. We had some destinations planned to visit friends but the route was open for change and we left with no hotel reservations. This time we took the Porsche Boxster.

We went up through the Arizona Indian country, into eastern Utah staying the first night in Blanding, Utah. Then we followed the Colorado River into Colorado, through Vernal, into Wyoming and Idaho staying in Rexburg. The next day we kicked around in Jackson Hole before driving through Yellowstone staying that night in Livingston, Montana. We then wandered north into Montana, staying in Missoula. The next night we stayed in Sandpoint, Idaho. Route 20 then took us across northern Washington to the ferry to the San Juan Islands and Friday Harbor.

We  visited for a day and two nights with Joe and Becce Bettridge in Friday Harbor. The next day we stopped to see Dennis and Judy Lee in Port Angeles. Then it was south through Oregon staying two nights with Jim and Cynth Frego in Grants Pass, Oregon. Driving the great roads down the north coast of California we stayed in Fort Bragg and then two nights with Jan's Dad in Aptos, California. We stopped for a night in San Clemente near San Diego on the way home.

We were gone for 15 days and drove 4800 miles. A great road trip.

The wide open spaces of Utah, Wyoming and Montana are beautiful
We stayed in Rexburg, Idaho. We visited their museum about the big flood of 1973. A dam, 18 miles north of town on the Teton River, suddenly broke flooding the town . We then visited the site of the broken dam. Only the middle section remains.
We visited the Bettridges at Friday Harbor. We also took a ferry ride to the other islands. It was beautiful day. The island is like a picture post card. You would think you were in a theme park.
Joe's new church. It is the spiritual hub of Friday Harbor
Joe gets around town on his moped
The Lees in Port Angeles. Their new house is up on the hill overlooking the water with the Olympic Mountains behind them.
Then a stop with old friends Jim & Cynth in Gr;ants Pass
Cynth with her Airedales Bruno and Sophie
We stopped to visit Jan's mom in Los Gatos
