Foot Problem Act 2

Act 1 - November 15, 2011

In November of 2011 Dr. Brainard, Craig's foot doctor suggested more foot surgery. The plan was to make the right foot look more like the left one by shaving bone off each side and the bottom and by lengthening the Achilles tendon.  They pulled out 45 staples and then put a new cast on. Sort of gross photos. (Someone should learn to leave their camera home)

Act 2 - December 9

This time they are straightening all five toes. The broke each toe and then lengthened the tendons on two toes about 3 inches back. They put a screw in the big toe, about 3 inch rods down the center of each toe and closed  all the incisions  with staples. See the x-ray below. My feet look like the antenna covered roofs in Brookland.

Act 3 - December 20

They took the cast off. It was really ugly. They x-rayed it again, removed all the staples and Jan cleaned it up some. The doctor thought it looked great. Then they put on a new green and red Christmas cast. The foot is still real swollen. The doctor said that will probably take a year to go away.

Act 4 - January 17, 2012

The cast came off as scheduled. They xrayed it again and then the doctor yanked all the pins out. I was suprised how long they were. One was 6 inches long. The foot is still very swollen. The doc says it will take a year for it to get to final size. I am back in shoes now. I am still using one crutch for awhile. On January 19th I strapped the crutch on the motorcycle and headed for Death Valley. It was just what the foot needed as while we rode 1400 miles, I did little walking.

Check point - February 17, 2012

It is getting better every day. Check the photo. It does not look that much better but it feels a lot better.
