Colorado Motorcycle Trip 2013

In July of 2013 Dave Delie, Mark Booth, Skip Blecker and I took a 4 day motorcycle trip to Colorado. We stayed in Cortez, Delta and Farmington New Mexico. Check the map. We drove about 1700 miles in the four days. We drove some old favorite roads and found some new ones. The best road is still CO141.

We left Tucson at 6am and stopped for breakfast in Globe.

This kid thought we were interesting and wanted to see our photo and I took his.

We went to Chinle and then took a great road over the mountains to Shiprock.

We stayed the night in Cortez. The next morning we went north on 141.

I liked these signs in our breakfast restaurant.

There is an historic sight along 141 where miners built flumes into the canyon walls. Click here to read more about it.

There is also a natural spring along that road.

We stopped and toured the auto museum in Gateway. This is something you shouldn't miss.

The scenery along 141 is terrific.

South of Grand Junction is the Colorado National Monument. The road circles the area with some wonderful views of the canyoms.

Next we rode the Mesa, CO65 road which comes out above Delta. We stayed in Delta the second night.

The Paonia Motorcycle rally was on this weekend. We drove up there to see what was happening. It was breakfast time. I want to go there next year.

Route CO92 down to route US50 is fantastic.

We took a detour into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. One road has a 20 percent drop into a canyon with a lake on the river.

We talked to these Harley riders from Tennessee.

The road went straight down with a series of switchbacks.

Skip is taking off his rain gear. It rained from Ridgeway to Durango. Doesn't it always?

That night we had a nice hotel in Farmington.

We came home on NM117 through reserve and home over Mule Creek.
